Sifu Cheng Visits New Caledonia

During the month of January this year, Sifu Cheng visited our branch at New Caledonia for a week (22 - 28 January). Sifu Francois Medevielle was the instructor there. Sifu Medevielle and his students enthusiastically welcomed Sifu Cheng as this was his first visit. He was very happy to have been invited to live at Sifu Medevielle's home during the stay.

For Sifu Cheng, this visit was a mixture of hard Wing Chun training and a relaxing vacation. The daily routine was to wake up early in the morning and started training Wing Chun until lunch time. Lunches were taken in different places and Sifu Cheng fondly remembered the delicious (but expensive) delicacies which he sampled at the restaurant near the beach. The afternoon was also an opportune time to visit the local food market, as well as some sightseeings. Then there was a memorable dinner at a seafood restaurant, which had been built standing above the sea water. Between lunch and dinner, Sifu Medevielle would train with Sifu Cheng diligently. His dojo (kwoon) is located at a modern but humble 1-floor unit, which was shared with a Viet Vo Dao class. The Viet Vo Dao school was led by Mr. Vincent Than Trong, who openly welcomed and cross-trained with our school during this special visit. The overall atmosphere of the training sessions was one of mutual skills exchange and positive curiosity.

Eventhough it was a week full of hard training, Sifu Cheng thoroughly enjoyed his stay in New Caledonia and had a wonderful experience. Sifu Cheng would like to thank Sifu Medevielle, his lovely family and the New Caledonia Wing Chun students for their dedication, discipline and hospitality. With fond memories, Sifu Cheng would also like to extend his gratitude to Mr. Trong of the Viet Vo Dao family. Your hospitality and energetic response were truly appreciated. Sifu Cheng looks forward to his next visit to the beautiful island country of New Caledonia.
